Ansonia Cemetery

Ansonia Cemetery is a peaceful place of remembrance for families in our community. This page provides helpful information for visitors, including cemetery hours, contact details, burial information, and important rules to help preserve the grounds.
Hours
The cemetery is open daily from sunrise to sunset. No loitering is permitted in the cemetery at any time.
Burial and Lot Information
Applications for the purchase of cemetery lots must be made through the Cemetery Superintendent.
A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required prior to burial.
Payment for cemetery lots must be made in full before burial. Opening and closing costs must also be paid prior to or at the time of burial.
One grave is permitted per cemetery lot. An exception may be made for cremation burial. In no event will more than two graves be allowed per cemetery lot.
All burials, with the exception of a cremation, require a vault.

- Monday through Friday: $600
- Weekends and holidays: $700
- Infant burial, Monday through Friday: $300
- Infant burial, weekends and holidays: $350
- Cremation burial, Monday through Friday: $300
- Cremation burial, weekends and holidays: $400
Lot Fees
- Cemetery lot purchase price: $500 per lot
- Winter thawing fee: $200
Cemetery Rules
Visitors are welcome during open hours only. Children in the cemetery must be under adult supervision at all times.
Glass containers are not permitted on the cemetery grounds. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the cemetery at any time.
The speed limit within the cemetery is 5 miles per hour.
No littering or disorderly conduct of any kind will be tolerated. Anyone destroying or defacing cemetery property will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Except for military services, no firearms may be discharged in the cemetery.
Flowers, Decorations, and Plantings
Shrubs and trees may not be planted in Ansonia Cemetery without written permission from the Ansonia Cemetery Board.
Flowers may not be planted directly in the ground. Planters and saddles are allowed. Glass containers may not be used as flower holders.
Mowing of individual cemetery lots is not allowed.
Existing plantings that interfere with the proper opening of a grave may be removed by the Cemetery Superintendent.
No landscaping is permitted around a headstone or burial lot beyond what is specifically allowed. Landscaping that was already in place at the time of the ordinance may remain as is, but it may not be expanded.
Containers of flowers should be removed as soon as the flowers fade and wither. The Cemetery Board or Cemetery Superintendent has the right to remove any dead or diseased flowers.
Decorations may be placed two weeks prior to Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, a decedent’s birthday, and one month prior to Christmas. All decorations must be removed after two weeks. Decorations not removed within that time may be removed by the Cemetery Superintendent.
Lot Transfers
No sale or transfer of a cemetery lot by a lot owner is effective or binding upon the Village of Ansonia until the transfer paperwork is presented to the Cemetery Superintendent and recorded in the cemetery records.
The sale price of a cemetery lot by a lot owner may not be greater than the original purchase price of the lot.
No signs advertising the sale of a cemetery lot or vault are permitted on the cemetery grounds.
Lot owners or their heirs must provide written permission to the Cemetery Superintendent prior to burial for any person other than the original lot owner.
Monuments and Markers
Monuments and grave markers are allowed within the cemetery for lots sold after the effective date of the ordinance.
Grave markers must be set level with the ground at the head of the grave.
Markers may embrace two or more cemetery lots, and two or more inscriptions may be permitted on one marker.
Footers for monuments must have a minimum depth of 30 inches and must be approved by the Cemetery Superintendent prior to installation.
Military plaques shall be installed at the direction of the Cemetery Superintendent.
